CUSTOMS BILL.
DRAFT NOT YET HEADY. [Fhom Our Parliamentary llei-ortek.J WELLINGTON, February 22. Officials of the Customs Department have been so busily engaged on the Sales Tax Bill during the last fortnight that they have been unable to give the necessary time to the preparation of the Customs Amendment Bill which will confirm the resolutions recently' passed by the House imposing excise and Customs duties on tobacco, sugar, and petrol, and an export tax on gold. Mr Forbes said he was considering taking local Bills in the House to-mor-row, and .hoped that the Customs Bill would be ready by Friday. Now that the House is to sit from 2.30 p.m. till midnight on every day of the week except Sunday, the general opinion is that the business of the 80$sion will be finished by Friday week or early in the following week at the latest.
