I CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive of tho Canterbury Manufacturers' Association met last night in the library of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. There were present: Messrs F. L. Hutchinson, (president), E, E. Berry, W. C. Fairbrother, C. M. 8., Richards, A. G. Cannons, 11. Lee, S. H. Maddron, I. Woolf, W. A. Bascand, W. A. Patterson, E. H\ Marrinor, E. D. Brown, H. F, Sewell, C, H, Burson, 15. Archbold, J. Murphy, and R. H. Wobb. Tlie chairman] in his statoment, said that tho most noteworthy event' since the previous meeting was the calamit- - ous fall in the overseas prices of the products Of the Dominion. It was a very prions thing for the Dominion, but it & n cvi ' out 01 which ho thought good would come, and that good was that the of iho Doininioi! would realise that they would have to rely more on tho markets in the DomWon for tho consumption of their products. It was evident that Britain, with its markets flooded, its determination to develop its own markets for the produco of its own farmers, and ite desire that its farmers should obtain good prices for their products, indicated that there woud bo a definite restriction of exports of the Dominion's produce and of produce from other part# of the Empire and, probably, the elimination of imports of produce from foroign countries, The writing was on the wall, and the New Zealand farmer would have to rely more on the New Zealand market; it meant also that -New Zealand must develop industrially. Sitoppiug ". The question of holding New Zealand Shopping Week in April this year was discussed in committee. On resuming it was reported: "That the executive ap predates the willingness of the Retailers' Association to meet it in tin effort to explore the possibility of holding the New Zealand Shopping Display Week. The Publicity Committee, with Mr; J. Murphy added, was authorised to meet the retailers, and within the limits agreed upon in committee, given power to act."
