MEETING OF NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Golf Association was held at Wellington on Monday. There -were present: Sir Alexander 'fioberts (chairman), Messrs A. D. S. Duncan, E. Page, J. H. Drake, A. rf Sclanders, and G. 0. Sutton (secretary). The secretary reported that he had wtiiten to the secretary o£ the Australian Golf Union asking for' advice as to what State or States would be sending teams to Auckland at Easter to compete for the KirkWindeyer Oup, and had had a cablegram in reply to the effect that the cup was not under the jurisdiction of the Australian Union, and that the Victorian and New South Wales Associations have been asked to advise the New Zealand Association. It was decided that it was desirable to place the control of the competition, as affecting Australia, with the Australian Golf Union, in order that there may be one official body in Australia to refer to when required, and the secretary was directed to write to Mr W. A. Wlndeyer, and endeavour to hdve this given effect to. Tho question, of the selection of » team was nest considered, but eventually it was decided to call the council together immediately advice had been received from Australia. The dates of the matches were fixed as April 19 and 20, the foursomes on April 19, and tho singles on April 20. Thus' tho cup matches will follow on immediately after, the provincial championship at Middlemore. It was resolved : to offer Norman Puller an engagement as professional for the Association for six months from March 81, as-in view of the comparatively little coaching required by clubs last year the council did not feel justified in paying a 1 full year's salary. In order to encourage the country clubs to make more use of the Association's professional, it was decided, for this season, to reduce the charge to clubs to 30s a Y.-oek. Correspondence was read from the chairman of the green research committee, Mr F. W. Hobbs, outlining the finance which was considered necessary for the present year, including the purchase of machinery and tho erection of a machine shed. Th« council was of opinion that the amount l required was considerably more than the Association was prepared to meet, and that unless the associations governing bowls and tennis were prepared to assist materially it looked as though the experimental work would have to be substantially curtailed. RAWHITI CLUB. I The annual report of the Bawhiti Golf Club, lo be presented at the annual meeting of the club on February 23, states that the lull membership comprises 60 ladies and 58 men, a total of 118 members, which shows an increase of 20 members over last year's total. The balaace-slieet, shows a, surplus of assets over .liabilities of £42 18s Id, an increase in the year's working of £1 6s 7d.
