♦— GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING. The General Committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association met yesterday afternoon, when Mr W. J. Jenkins presided. Also prosent were: Messrs W. 0. "1 should like to congratulate you J Association on the manner m whtcb the horses were brought out at tnc show," lie wrote in his letter. 1 cannot offer any criticism of the organisation, and would specially mention i ■<' splendid services of marshal and members in attendance." The North Canterbury Jersey Cattle Club wrote thanking the Association tor placing wooden headings along the divisions of the cattle pavilion at the Show Grounds. The letter was received. Support for the stock improvement scheme advanced by the Association was offered in a letter received trom th« Auckland Agricultural and Pas toral Association. The secretary, Mr M. K Lyons, said that the circular explaining the scheme Lad been sent to the Auckland Association over a year ago, and apparently had been referred .to a committee for investigation and report. Two Protests from Timam. The Tiroorti Agricultural aud Pastoral Association wrote asking tor support for its protest agaiust further wheat importations. The letter was written on December 14, 19132, and included a motion of protest forwarded to the Minister. Mr 11. \V. Lochhead moved that the protest be supported, stating that :t seemed unreasonable tha't wheat was to be imported when the estimated surplus for the ISXS3 season was about ■i,000,000 bushels. Professor It. E. Alexander: The Wheat Purchase Board has been formed since this protest and will deal with the whole thing. There was no seconder to the motion nud, on the motion of Mr L. 11. C. Maefarlaue, the letter was received. The Timaru Association also wroto asking lor support for its claim that there should be a higher allowance made for cornsacks. The letter was received and no action taken, a member'commenting that it was a little late in the day and there was no purpose in labouring the protest. the report of the district Fat lamb export competition held last month was before the meeting. It was decided thai, the 1933-3-1 season competition be held between December 15 and December 20, 1933.
