CANADIAN STORE CATTLE. As part of their plan to implement Hie agreements made at Ottawa as soon as possible, the British House of ' Commons recently passed without division that section of the Conference articles dealing with the meat quota and finally removed the existing restrictions against the importation of J Canadian eattle into the United King- I dom. As soon as the Bill covering all the Ottawa agreements is passed, which is expected momentarily, the free entry of Canadian stock will bp authorised. liemoval of restrictions on the importation of Canadian cattle into (he United Kingdom has been sought for years by Canadian Governments and agricultural interests. Not until the Imperial Economic Conference which met in July did the British Government consent to modification, and the legislation lately submitted to the House of Commons in London is in fulfilment of the terms of the trade treaty signed at the Conference. Originally imposed for the protection of British eattle against disease, the restrictions were maintained despite repeated protests from Canadian agricultural experts that Canadian cattle were as healthy as any in the world. The restrictions operated chiefly to prevent the shipment of feeder or store cattle by requiring that Canadian cattle must be slaughtered at the point of disembarkation, or, if shipped inland, i must conform to certain strict regulations. They thus placed serious difficulties in the way of the s;i!e of unfinished Canadian cattle to English farmers for fattening
