THE TAINUI ANCHOR-STONE.—The great boulder said to have lain in the bed of the Mokau River for hundreds of years which is now embedded in concrete in a stone canoe at the Maniroa Pa, near Mokau. It covers the resting place of Whitere, a tribal chief reputed to have been born on the historic canoe Tarnui.
