Leaping the rails as it rounded a curve, the engine of a goods tram crashed over on its side near Bathurst. The fireman, Leslie Burke, a young married man, was killed. The driver, John Gobbie, had a miraculous escape. Though covered with debris and wreckage he managed to crawl out with a few bruises and scratches. TRAWLER CRASHES INTO BATHS. ESCAPE FROM SERIOUS DAMAGE. SYDNEY, January 7. Coining alongside her wharf at Woollooniooloo this afternoon, the Murrell trawler David Blake crashed nose-first into the private baths near the wharf. The trawler had been coaling at Pyrmont, in preparation for a cruise south t,o-night, but her Skipper was not on board whon the crash occurred. As the tide was low, the trawler was unable to go astern from tho baths to free herself, and was gripped in the mud iu the baths. The woodwork of tho baths was smashed In, but fortunately there was nobody standing on the woodwork At tho time. The ship escaped serious damage by coming to rest between two thick walis of rock and concrete. Early attempts to novo her failed, and the tug ChestCrford continued to stand bv.
