OBJECTION TO N.Z. BUTTER.

The impounding of 250,000b of -New Zoaland butter at present en route to Canada, and the prevention of further imports, was urged upon an executive meeting of tho United Farmers of Alberta on Wednesday in a telegram from un unknown source. Tho executive declined to take action for tho present. The vice-president, Mr Norman Priestly, said information received indicated that a butter shipment was due to reach the Pacific Const on January 27, and that an Alberta company had purchased a large quantity of it. NO OFFICIAL KNOWLEDGE. OBSERVING TRADE AGREEMENT. (Received January 12', 8.55 p.m.) OTTAWA, January 11. In connexion with the report from Calgary suggesting the impounding ol New Zealand butter, it in stated here that Canada has a trade agreement with Now Zealand, and any measures taken to restrict the shipment of butter to Canada would have to bo in accord with the terms of that treaty. Officiate of the Dominion Government have not heard of the proposal to impound a special- shipment of any commodity, and it is not known what is the authority for any such action.
