ADVENT ORDINATIONS.
CHRISTCIIURCH CANDIDATES. The ordination of two candidates for tho priesthood and two for the diaconate took place at tho Cathedral yesterday morning. Henry Arthur Childs and David Dunvillo Thorpe were ordained deacons, and Henry Ivor Hopkins and John Evans were ordained priests. The ceremony was performed by the Rt. Rev. Campbell West-Watson, Bishop of Christehureh, who was attended his chaplains, the Rev. Canons J. de B. Galwey and H. O. T. Hanby. The sermon was preached by the ltev. E. C. W. Powell, of Sydenham, from the text " Follow me, and 1 will make you fishers of men" (Matthew iv., 19), and ulio Epistle was read by the Rev. O. Purchas, of Rangiora, in which, parish Mr Hopkins is working. , After the sermon the clergy and ordinands went in procession up to tho Sanctuary, where the ordinands were presented to the Bishop by the Re"\. is. Parr, examining chaplain to the Bishop. The Litany was recited by tho Very Rev. Dean Julius, after which tho Bishop began tho Communion service. Mr Lomas was at the organ duriug the hymns. When the ordination of tho two deacons had been carried out, Jie Gospel was read by Mr IX Thorpe, the senior deacon. . The ordination of the two priests was an impressive ceremony. Tne service then proceeded as at an ordinary Eucharist.
