YOUNG MAN'S DEATH.
VERDICT OF SUICIDE. An inquest into the death of Hyla Fraaeis Gibbard, aged 26,- of 42 Somme street, St. Albans, was held before the Coroner, Mr H. A. Young, on Saturday evening. Dr. J. P. Whetter gave evidence of attending Gibbard on Saturday morning at 9.20 o'clock. Gibbard was then lying in bed with a razor nearby. There was a deeply incised wound on the left side of the throat. He died while the witness was there. Ji.ven it he had arrived earlier he could not have saved Gibbard's life. About seven years ago he had operated on Gibbard for mastoids, but he had not attended him for some years. Caleb Gibbard said that his son bad no financial worries. No complaint had been made to him by his son about anv trouble with the mastoids, but he understood that he had complained to a friend about them. Sarah Gibbard, the wife of the previous witness, said that at 8 a.m. on Saturday she went to her son's bedroom and gave him some breakfast. Afterwards witness called to him to get up and he answered. A fewminutes later witness called again, but there was no answer. She then opened the door of the room and saw her son in bed with a wound in his throat. When she took in the breakfast her son appeared to be quite normal, recently he had had some bleeding from the nose. Witness could not in any way account for her son's action. A verdict was brought in that Gibbard's death was due to a rauor wound self inflicted while temporarily insane.
