HORTICULTURE.

MEETING OP LILY CIRCLE. A meeting ot' the Lily Circle of the Canterbury Horticultural Society v.as held last evening. The Hon. Sir Heaton Rhodes presided. An appeal was made by Dr. T. F. Telford for bulbs to be sold at a flower show in aid of thu blind, to be hold iu February next. Nearly twenty differing species of lilies and lily hybrids, grown by members of the Circle, were exhibited at the meeting, and interesting talks on the characteristics of each species were given by Messrs F. J. Shanks and A. K. Wilson. i Particular interest was shown in a hybrid lily species. Uurbankii, which was stated to have been bred by Luther Eurbank. The plant was exhibited by Mr G. W. fcikcllerup. Following the talks by Messrs Shanks and Wilson members took the opportunity of inspecting the various exhibits. nn«J an informal discussion took place on methods of raising lilies, and of differentiating between the m.-niy Lpecics.
