Where to Go and What to Do. A VARIETY OF ENTERTAINMENTS.
/lIIVEX good weather at Christmas and New Year, those who arc •pending the festive season in Christchurch will have plenty of out-door and dn-door attractions to make their holiday a pleasant one. Cricketers, tennis and troquct players, bowlers, and followers of most other sports will bo ■well provided for with championship Snatches and tournaments, and the intcryrovincial cricket matches, race meetings, sports meetings, galas and regattas, railway and other excursions •will provide good entertainment for many. Talking pictures at the various city theatres, broadsiding and dunces. will bo popular with those seeking amusement in the evenings. As Christmas Evo falls on a Saturday this year, last-minute shopping will Lave to be done in the morning. But this arrangement of the holiday period, though it necessarily makes Christmas Day and New Year's Day times of quieter amusement, will have the effect of giving a greater length of unbroken holiday for many, while full programmes of attractions are provided for the Saturday, Monday and Tuesday of each week-end. Special Eailway Services. For the holiday season the Eailway Department is advertising special augmented services on the main lines, as well as special trains to fit in with the various sports and other attractions out of Christchurch. A daily service between Christchurch and Invercargill will be provided from to-morrow (December 17th) to January 31st.
These trains will also run on Christmas Day. Relief trains and intermittent night trains will also run through the holiday period between Christchurch and Duucdin, while there will be a daily service between Christchurch and Greymouth as well as special night trains and relief trains on this line. The following is a list of holiday attractions: — Saturday, December 24th. Piunket shield cricket match, Canterbury v. Auckland, at Lancaster Park. Canterbury provincial tennis championships begin at Wilding Park. Athletic and cycling sports at English Park. Outboard Motor-Boat Club's races at Eedeliffs. Broadsiding at Monica Park. Carnival at Winter Garden. Talking pictures at the following theatres: —Eegent, Plaza, Theatro Koyal, Crystal Palace, Majestic, Liberty, Everybody's and Grand. Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25th. Eailway excursion to Timaru. Monday, December 26th. Piunket Shield cricket at Lancaster Park. Tennis championships at Wilding Park. Christchurch Golf Club's Christmas tournament. Canterbury rifle championships at Eedeliffs. Canterbury Croquet Association's tournament at United greens. South Christchurch bowling tournament (rinks) at Beckenham, Barrington and Spreydon.
Linwood bowling tournament. Sports meetings at Doyleston, Halswell, Oxford and Waimato. Eailway excursion to Otira. Excursion to 'Stewart's Gully. Galas at "The Pines," Kairaki, and at Waikuku. Ashburton Trotting Club's meeting, "Westport Trotting Club's meeting, and Westland E.C.'s meeting at Hokitika. Lyttelton Ferry Launches run special services to Corsair Bay and Diamond Harbour. Talking pictures at city theatres. Tuesday, December 27th. Piunket Shield cricket. Tennis championships. Croquet tournament. South Christchurch bowling tournament (rinks). Sports at Springfield and Halswell. Westland Racing Club's and West port Trotting Club's meetings (second day). Excursion to Stewart's Gully. Excursion to Lake Mahinapua. Lyttelton Ferry Launches run special services to Corsair Bay and Diamond Harbour. Talking pictures at city theatres. Wednesday, December 28th, will be the last day of tho Canterbury-Auck-land cricket match, while the South Christchurch bowling tournament, the tennis championships and the croquet tournament will continue. On Friday, Decombcr 30th. the Ecefton T.C.'s meeting will bo held. Saturday, December 31st. Piunket Shield cricket, Canterbury v. Wellington, begins at Lancaster Park. First clay of Greymouth J.C.'s meeting. Sports at Takamatua nnd Motukarara. Broadsiding at Monica Park. New Year's Evo Carnival dance at Winter Garden. Talking pictures at city theatres. Sunday, January Ist. Railway excursion to Timaru. Monday, January 2nd. Canterbury Park T.C.'s meeting at Addington, Greymouth J.C.'s meeting at Hokitika, and Waiau R.C.'s meeting. Piunket Shield cricket at Lancaster Park. Athletic sports at Timaru, Dunsandel, and Prebbleton. Eegatta at Akaroa. Eailway excursion to Timaru.

Tuesday, January 3rd. Second day of Canterbury Park T.C.'s meeting at Addington. Piunket Shield cricket continues at Lancaster Park. Railway excursion to Otira. Excursion to Stowart's Gully. Sports at Eangiora and Methven. Talking pictures at city theatres. Wednesday, January 4th will bo tho last day of the cricket match, and then also the Westland T.C. will hold its meeting at Hokitika. The Greymouth T.C.'s meeting will bo hold on January sth. Both for tho Ashburton T.C.'s. meeting ou December 20th and the Canterbury Park T.C.'s meeting on January 2nd and 3rd tho catering is being done by Messrs P. Burke and Co., who make a speciality of this kind of work, and who arc also well-known as the proprietors of tho popular Winter j Garden Cabaret.
