« —■ — INTER-COLLEGIATE FOURS. CHRIST'S COLLEGE BEAT WANGANUI. (SPECIAL TO THE PRESS.) WANGANUI, December 15. No difficulty was experienced by the Christ's College crew in defeating the Wanganui Collegiate School four over a mile course at Aramoho on the Wanganui river to-day. Although the, Wanganui crew led by three-quarters of a length shortly after the start, Christ's College gradually overtook them and won by six lengths. Th 6 conditions could not have been better, there being practically no current ana hardly a ripplo on the water. The visitors were undoubtedly the better crew and the more polished oarsmen. They rowed the Fairbairn or English stroke, used plenty of body swing, and were not bustled at any stage. Their rate of striking was not varied much from start to finish. Wanganui started with a great burst when the gun was fired. They into their work, using a faster stroke than thoir opponents,. and going to the front almost immediately; In the first two hundred yards they obtained a lead of almost three-quarters of a length, but were not swinging together so well as Christ's College, who gradually commenced to catch up. Another two hundred yards saw the crews on level terms. At the halfmile Christ's College led by two lengths, and were drawing away all the time. Only over the last quarter of a mile did Christ's College quicken j t ]ieir pace. They won comfortably, and stopped rowing before the judge fired the gun. The initial burst had its. effect on the Wanganui crew, who faded over the last stages. Christ's College will-row Wanganui Technical College four at Aramoho tomorrow morning. The crows werei :— Christ's College—H. P. Flower (rtr), EH Harper (3). E. W. S. Williams (2), S. M. Gray (bow, captain), and d. Wanganui Collegiate School—R. W. ( White (str), C. B-.Gibbons, G. N Barron, H. C. Smith, and C. J. M. , Gardner (cox). ' Christ's College have now won the race nine times. j
