TOWN PLANNING.
-♦ CHRIBTCHURCH BRANCH OF INSTITUTE. I The Clmsleliurch branch of the Town Planning Institute of .Yew Zealand met last night. Mr A. It. Galbraith presiding. Mr C. E. Cross made an enquiry regarding the conference with the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association on the question of zoning in connexion with offensivo trades. Mr A. 11. llridgo Puid that us the outcome of a conference of' representatives of local bodies it was decided to communicate with the Manufacturers' Association regarding the question of offensivo trades, but no reply had been received from tho Association. The secretary (Mr E. Scott) reported that the annual meeting of the Institute was fo be held in Wellington on October 19th, and on behalf of the Chrii«tchurch branch tho following had been nominated for the General Council:—Messrs A. R. Galbraith. K. <\ Barker. E. 11. Andrews, and C. M Cross. Mr .fames Cullens, referring to the Woiroa earthquake, suggested that the Council of the Institute should approach the Government and urge that the building regulations recommended by the Earthquake Committee should be adopted. The chairman said that he quite agreed. The sooner they were adopted the better. On the motion of Mr Culleiis. sec onded by Mr Cross, it was decided to ask the Institute's headquarters in Wellington to urge tho adoption of tho oarthquake building regulations throughout the Dominion as early as possible in view of the recent serious earthquake at Wairoa. It was decided that the resolution should be forwarded as a remit for discussion at the annual meeting of the Institute.
