BRANCH LINES.
TOUR OP RAILWAYS BOARD. VISIT TO NORTH CANTERBURY. Tlic railway branch lines to Southbridge, Littlo River, Oxford, Eyrcton, tind Culvorden were visited by tho New Zealand Railways Board yesterday, when it continued its tour of inspection in North Canterbury. The Hoard was interviewed at many places cn route by representatives of the various districts, and matters affecting tho railways generally and the needs of each particular district were very fully discussed. In a statement to Thb Pres» from Culvcrden last night, tho chairman of tho Board (Mr H. H. Sterling) said that the whole question of transport facilities was reviewed at each of the different centres, and in each case the Board's policy and its view of the position wero fully explained to thoso present. The presence of the Board and tho opportunity for discussion with tho members had brought forth sonic warm expressions of appreciation from tho many representative men with whom they came into contact. Tho Hoard spent the niyht at the CtiU-rdcii Hotel, and will complete its tour to-day by travelling down the Cheviot li'ie in tho morning and visit-, inij tho Springfield and White cliffs lines in the afternoon. Tho members of the Board, with the exception of Mr D. Reese, will return to Wellington by tho ferry steamer to-night.
