A special feature will be the dates of the various badge examinations for the current month, as a reminder to. intending competitors. Grubb, of Methven, has passed her ranger captain's warrant test paper. . . • _.* •■■ East Christctturch Guiders. A meeting of the East Christchureii guiders will be held in the guide office ,on Wednesday, September 14th; at 1 p.m. This is a jnost important meeting, and arrangements will be completed for ■ the district concert, to be held on October 20th. Every pack, and company must send a representative to this meeting. :'"'.'■' ■ • ■ • • • The North Christchureh guiders extend an invitation to all guiders to attend their dance, which is being held in the Navy League Hall on September <24th. Further information may be obtained from Miss M. Wake, district sec-' retary, or from provincial headquarters. Guiders' Nursing Division. The girl guides' nursing division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade is making great progress. There are now 22 members in the senior division and 20 in the cadet division. Every -guider and senior guide should avail herself of this opportunity of training in first aid ;and home-nursing, so that she may be prepared to render service when the opportunity offers. Miss G-. Donaldson, .captain of the Burwood company, is the lady superintendent, and she will be glad to supply further information. •• • • ..' Knitting Badge. The examination for the knitter's badge was held in the guide office on Tuesday, the examiner being Miss M. Cocks. Forty candidates entered for the examination, and of this number 38 were successful in gaining the badge; Miss Cocks expressed satisfaction with the work entered, the standard having greatly improved.. Enid Simes (Cash--mere rangers), Mary Scarff (Cashmere guides), and Peggy Cusaek (St. Luke's rangers) were specially mentioned for the excellence of their knitting. The committee appointed to select the Canterbury entry of articles- made;
by the various ranger companies for this competition had a difficulty task. Quite a number of the articles Icon-' sidered to be worthy of selection, but-as only five were required,-it was decided to send forward to headquarters the' following:—Barbola work (St. Saviour's rangers), golliwog (Methven rangers}', portrait in oils, knitted jumper, and embroidery (Sti Luke's rangers), a pic : ture made of coloured 'Silver paye'" (Timaru rangers), plaster, mpdel (Linwood rangers), and fire Screen with leather panel (Cashmere rarigers) wet# very much admired.' -- ■ ~ -
