THE LAMBING.
GOOD PERCENTAGE EXPECTED. In the Ellesmere district lajnbing is well advanced and it is'possible to form Bomo idea of th« percentage prospects. , Inquiries made in various parts of the district go to show that the proportion of lambs is likely to' be exceptionally good. In several instances the percentages vrere found to range between. 12a-and 130, and in one specific case a-flock of 180 ewes produced over 240, lambs.' The absence of wet, cold weather during the winter has had a beneficial effect upon the lambing. The mortality , in most cases amongst both ewes and lambs appears to have been rather lower than usual. Some farmers have had a good deal of trouble in. getting ewes with twins to mother both of them. Frequently a ewe will mother one lamb and refuse to have anything to do with the other. The explanation offered by fanners who have met with this difficulty is that through a shortage of feed the ewes are not producing the usual flow of milk, and that they realise their inability to mother two lambs. The trouble is liot being met with w frequently on farms where there is a. sufficiency of feed, particularly green feed, so the explanation seems to be a feasible one. Stray: dogs, have -been a source of annoyanee to many floekowriers, and shooting and .poisoning are being I resorted to. i; I
