A legal point of special interest to local bodies has come before the Devonport Borough Council. A local resident offered to lease, at a stated rental, one of the borough sections in Malvern road. The Town Clerk, Mr A. E. Wilson, has pointed out, however, that the Municipal Corporations Act and the Public Bodies Leases Act make it mandatory to advertise the section and to prepare a special plan, the cost of conforming with the Inw being in excess of the rent offered. The securing of some alteration in the law has been suggested, but no action has yet been taken by the council.
