OTTAWA AND CURRENCY.

TO THL EDITOR Of THR PRESS. Sir, —Now that the mom berg of tlie Imperial Conference have given their blessing to the'further development of Dominion currencies, the Government has a free hand. The return of the delegates should inaugurate a period of rapid recovery and progress. The Government will have the power and •opportunity that rarely comes to the lot of any nation. They -will have the chance to show the superiority of the individualistic system. The land settlement scheme of Lincoln College is a move in the right direction. Expansion in other industries can be fostered. Schemes making for greater efficiency and development can be encouraged. The strain of repression under deflation, can be replaced by the urge to succeed under a policy of progress. Greater facilities for education can be given in all branches. The Government will have the means to provide scholarships for all showing brilliance in any branch and for setting up centres for higher education. They will be able to be more generous to the unemployed and to the relief workers during the process of absorption into usual occupations. To have the power to control internal finance and to remove a deficiency of money in circulation should prove a source of great strength to the nation, with the advantage of not increasing overseas liabilities. The country can quickly be moving at full capacity and extra exports will pay for extra imports, instead. of paying extra interest. To borrow overseas now tf-ould be like a man sinking under two mortgages trying to savo himself by contracting a third.—Tours, etc., KAYE HOE. Aylesbury, August 17th, 1932.
