FIRE BRIGADE. The annual banquet of tlic Lyttelton Volunteer Eire Brigade will be held in the Fire Station to-night. It will be followed by dancing and cards. Seamen's Institute. A pleasant- evening was spent on Thursday at the Seamen's Institute, when a * concert arranged by Mrs C. W. Maclaverty, of the Lyttelton Guilct, was given before a company of about 35 seamen. The programme was as follows: Pianoforte solos, Mrs G. Brooke and Mr H. Hoyle; songs, Miss M. Hatchwell, Mrs F. Mintey, Mr L. Symmonds, and' Master U. Edgar; recitation, Miss Kilocn Mintey; community singing led by Mrs Brooke. The accompanists were Mr Hoyle and Mrs Brooke. The superintendent expressed thanks to the performers, after which supper was served. Golf. The Lyttelton Ladies' Golf Club ■will hold a medal match at Charteris Bay to-morrow. Harbour Liglit Theatre. . "The Speckled Band," the Sherlock Holmes mystery drama to bo screened at the Harbour Light Theatre to-day, is one of Conan Doyle's greatest thrillers. Breathless suspense is maintained 'throughout the story, and there is a remarkable denouement. Raymond Ma.ssey and Lvn Harding arc the stars. Orchestral items, a Terry Toon cartoon, and a further episode of "Fingerprints" comprise the first part of the programme.
