EMPLOYERS TO MEET ON THURSDAY.
TRAMWAY CONCESSIONS FOR SEPTEMBER.
The campaign, to be launched next month to find employment for boys and youths out of work will be advanced a big step on. Thursday next, at 8 p.m., when an important meeting of employers will be held in the Chamber of Commerce Kali. Tti® meeting has been called by the Chamber ol Commerce, the Canterbury Employers' Association, and by the chairman ol the Boys' Employment Committee ol the Chamber of Commerce (Mr T. N. Gibbs). At this meeting the full details of tho campaign will be outlined and an appeal will bo made to employers to guarantee the employment of a large number of boys. A message will be read from his Excellency the Governor-General, and it. is probable that a telephonic message from the Prime Minister (tho Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) will be broadcasted in th» meeting room. The Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) will preside. Every effort is being made to make the conference a great success and to ensure a large and representative gathering. Offers of employment will be called for.
Tramway Concessions. ' Two Tram Trips for One Cash r are ' will be the tramway slogan for September. Ihiring that month the Christchurch Tramway Board will allow concessions to mers of the tram? between the hours of 9.30 a.m. and 4.1-5 p.m., an extra ticket being issued to passengers entitling them to & trip additional to the one for which tbev hav e paid. This decision of the Tramway Board is in furtherance of the Youth Employment Campaign, which has as on© of its oujects the encouragement of freer spending by the public. The special two-trips-for-one-cafih-fare'' concession will place the shopping centres within more economical reach of the dwellers in the suburbs and is expected to provide a considerable stimulus to shopping in the City.
