COUNTY CLERKS.
ANNUAL MEETING OP INSTITUTE.
The fifth annual meeting and dinner of the Canterbury and Marlborough branch of the New Zealand Institute of County Clerks was held in Christchurch. The president, Mr G. Kelly (Ashburton), presided over a good-at-tendance of members and associates. A motion of sympathy with Mr A Wells Newton (Kyre) in the death of his wife was carried. The president expressed regret at the illness of Mr F. E. Whitehead (Levels), and a vote of sympathy with him was passed. In his report the president stated that the membership remained at 23, including seven associates. The form of time-sheet recommended by the road costing conference was discussed and approved. The financial statements were adopted. * Discussion on a paper on "Annual Estimates," which was prepared by the president during the year and circulated among members, was deferred. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Mr J. H. McAuliffe (Hteathcote); vice-presi-dent, Mr J. MacKenzie (Halswell); executive, president. vice-president, Messrs G. Kelly (Ashburton), A. C. Kenner (Kaikoura), L. J. Collins (Waimate), E. L. Neale (Springs), and the secretary; auditor, Mr A. A. Readdie (Geraldme); secretary and treasurer, Mr G. J. Broker (Ashburton). An enjoyable conversazione took place after the meeting during which many matters of interest to local bodies and members were discussed. It was decided to hold a half-yearly . meeting in Ashburton during the year.
