Mr W, A. FJavell. general manager of the Wegtport Coal Company, paeied through. Chrjsteburob yeeterdaV on bis return to Punedin from Wellington, where be bad been attending a conference in connexion with the coal mining dispute.
Passengers by the Rangatira from Wellington this morning include: Mr J, O'Brien, M.P., Chief Judge R. N. Jones, of th« Native Land Court. Mr Norton Franeip, the Hon. J A- Hauan, M.L.C., M* P- R. Olimie, Sir Thomas Bidey, and Mr R. A. Anderson.
Dr. Alton Peebles, of Washington, P.p., United States, is at present on a short visit to Christchurch. Dr. Peebles, who is a Ph.D., of Columbia University, has been engaged for the pa*t five years on economic research work in connexion with the costs of medical care in the United States.
Tho condition of leading Aircraftsman J, Simpson, who was injured in. an aeroplane crash m Monday, is ported to be slightly improved. It is stated also that the injury to bis eye is not likely to result in the loss of his sight. Squadron-ieader J. I*. Findlay, pilot or the machine which crashed, has npt been on the serious list at the Christchuroh Hospital for some days.
