A FALSE ALARM.

When the Anchor liner Tuscania arrived at Liverpool from Bombay recently, with IOOC ,passengers and a crew of 500, she was held up by the port sanitary authorities owing to a caso of supposed smallpox which had been discovered when the ship was two days out of Bombay, says the "Manchester Guardian." Tho caso was isolated and the passengers and crew were vaccinated. The passengers were roused at 4 a.m., and «ach one had to pass tho medical officers before the usual landing formalities wero permitted. The crew also had to pass the test. • After all these precautions had been taken, and the liner was about to sail for Glasgow, news was received from the Miniitry of Health that the reported smallpox case—that of a girl, aged 13—proved to be one of chickenpox.
