ST. GEORGE'S HOSPITAL CHAPLAINCY.

TO Tmf ECITOB Of THB WUtSS. Sir,—After reading the correspondence that has appeared in Thb-Prbsb during the past week, I feel that many must see the urgent need of a chaplain at St. George's Hospital, and must regret, .as I do, the controversy that has arisen over the matter. It cannot surely be right for anyone to object to the action of those who believe the appeal to be of vital importance. "Anglican's" suggestion that the staff do not need a chaplain has been answered by the action of the matron in filling the Torlesse purse herself. Several people already have suggested that appreciation of Canon Wilford's work could not be better shown than by making its continuance possible, and only those closely connected with the hospital know how great this work has been. It is well known that the aim of all the friends of St. George is to open a ward where people who are needy may receive loving care and treatment without payment, and .this will come about as soon as the hospital is out of debt; but we must have such a leader as is being proposed.—Yours, etc., A HUMBLE WOEKEB.. August 6th, 1932. TO THE XDITOB Or THB PBBSS. Sir,—My home is not in Christchurch, but I have always been interested in St. George's Hospital, and it seems to me imperative that, as Canon Wilford is leaving New Zealand, some suitable person should be found to fill the position of chaplain and organiser. Will nine of your readers help me fill a purse? I can find £1 a year for two years if nine others will do the same. If nine wiil forward you their donations mine is forthcoming. I

icci x we xnougnra or we greuu mass of the Church of England people in the diocese when I say that we all pray for the furtherance of this great work, the greatest institution connected with the Church in this province.—Yours, etc., NELSON DIOCESE. Cheviot, August 6th, 1932.
