Questioned after the meeting of the Unemployment Board to-day, the Act-ing-Minister for Employment said arrangements had been made for the continuation of construction work on the Lewia Pass road, in tho South Island, where operations were suspended some time ago. Tho Minister said tho Board had gone carefully into the position affecting the construction work and into the questions which made it appear that the work would require to be held up, but it had been decided that construction should continue. Tho projected Lewis Pass road runs from Hanmer ferry over the Lewis Pass, on the lowest altitude over the Southern Alps, coming out at Eeefton. Tho road will bring the West Coast into much closer touch with Canterbury. Work has been carried out on th* road at intervals over a number of years, and construction has already been completed to Glynn Wye, on the Canterbury side, and to Maruia Springs, on the West Coast side. Unemployed labour is being used on the Toad at present. '
