TRIAL OF ASSASSIN.

Francois Pietri, formor Minister for Defence, describing, at the trial of Paul Gorguloff, the assassination of President Doumcr, disclosed that Gorguloff fired a second shot while he was being held, a long time after the first. Lazaroff, an ex-Cossack, said Gorguloff represented the chief of the Cheka, and tortured 19 persons, including witness. lie described how his hands had been tied behind his back, and red-hot neodlos placed in his fingers, and matches stuck under his fingernails and sot alight. At this stage Gorguloff sprang lip and denounced Lazaroff as a liar. Three doctors declared that they did not believe Gorguloff to bp insane. He denied that they had examined him, except in the manner of gendarmes. A fourth doctor expressed the opinion that Gorguloff was .mentally unstable.
