A report from Hobart nays that a statement was mado recently by Mr Murdoch, M.L.C., that he had every reason to believe that there would be a permanent and regular shipping service between Sydney and Hobart next year. At present. he_ said, he was unable to give any further information regarding thp proposed servtcf. For several year* tho service betwecD .Sydney and Hobart has been carried on i:i the summer months only by the Huddart, Parker steamer Zealandia. Public bodies throughout Tasmania are co-operating with the Hobart Chamber of Commerce in H« efforts to induce the Federal Ministry to repeal tho coastal clauses of the Navigation Act to enable overseas "vessels to c»rry passenger? between Tasmania and the mainland. It is hoped that the. special legislation whicli the Prime Minister (Mr Lvons) has indicaied will bo submitted to the Federal Parliament will be introduced as soon as possible in order that arrangS'ments may bo mado in time for tho forthcoming tourist season.
