I If the Circle Shell had not happened; fo deviate from its usual course it would not liavo found Stanislaus llausner, the young airman who attempted to fly the North Atlantic from New York 1o Warsaw (Polafid), and was rescued after drifting for a week on his floating aeroplane. 1 According to the dramatic story of tho rescuo told by wireless from Captain Wilson, the "chief officer noticed what appeared to be a buoy four miles on the starboard bow. Tho peculiar markings induced the captain to investigate, and ho discovered an aeroplane, one-third submerged, heaving in tho roughening sea, and momentarily threatening to sink. The Circle Shell blew its siren, and a figuro waved frantically. The occupant literally fell into the rescuing lifeboat, exclaiming: "I'm lfausner. Save my ship." * lie was helped aboard tho Circlo Shell in almost complete darkness, and lurched across tho deck, saying: "Thanks very much, captain. I've 1 been waiting for you for eight days." ' Ho then collapsed. ' Ilausner ia incapable of discussing his experiences. He is uninjured, except for superficial cuts and bruises.
