UIT.CI.U. TO THE I'ilEaS / GBEYMQTJTH, June 13. Air and Mrs J. Henderson left on Saturday for Christchurch. Mr Chas. Eugg, who has been visiting Greymouth, returned on Saturday to Hornby. Mr C. Fraser, who has been visiting his parents in Greymouth, has returned to Wellington. Mr Hugh Smith (Inangahua Junction) celebrated his Slst birthday on Friday, and was entertained at a social evening at tho residence of his daughter, Mrs E. Heslop', of Eeefton. Mr F: Hawk en (Kaiapoi) is visiting his mother at Wallsend. Mrs C. Mitchell (Christchurch) is visiting friends m Waiuta. Nurse O'Meara, who has been spending a holiday in Christchurch, returned on Saturday. Mr H. L. Young (Palmerston North) arrived on Saturday, on a visit to the West Coast. Golf. The Greymouth Golf Clhb held a mixed foursome at their links at Omoto on Saturday, -when eight pairs took part. The match was won by Mr and Mrs Wilkinson, whose net score was 71. The next best scorers were James and Miss Pratt 76, Warnes and Miss Warnes 77. In the senior flag match played yesterday, Casey placed the flag in his eighteenth hole, which was carried two strokes further by A. Warnes, who won the match. In the junior flag, Thorphy, Kay, Wilkinson, and Chatfield finished the round with strokes in haijd, the first-named placing the flag in tho 20th hole, and gaining a comfortable win. It has beon definitely decided that the West Coast Championships "will this year be held in Westport in August, Valedictory. On the occasion of his retirement from tho position of manager of the Kunanga Co-operative Stores, after 14 years' service, Mr Thomas Storie was entertained on Friday evening at a social by residents of Runanga. During tho evening, tho Mayor, Mr B. McTaggart, presented Mr Storie with a wallet of notes on behalf of the Society, while the secretary, Mr T. Bowes, presented him with a bronze lire screen, a gold-mounted fountain pen, and a silver cake-stand, on behalf of tho staff. Mrs Reynolds, on behalf of the Co-operative Ladies' Guild, presented Mr Storie with a smoker's stand, a pipe in a case, and a vase. Collie Dog Club. The Grey Valley Collie l)og Club met 011 Friday evening at Totara Flat, Mr W. Clayton presiding. The chairman congratulated Mr J. Brown on his success at the recent trials at Mcthven. Special prizes were allotted as follows:—Gilbert Bros', gold medal, for youngest novice. Jack Clayton• Mr W. Clayton's guinea prize, to H. Gilmer's Joy, for gaining the highest points locally; Mr J. Brown's special prize to G. May, for the highest points gained by an outside dog. Borough Council. The Il'okitika Borough Council met on Friday evening, the Mayor, Mr G. A. Perry, presiding.

The Under-Secretary of the Justice Department wrote regretting that a reduction of £4O in thei salary of the clerk to the Licensing Committee of Westland could not be arranged, owing to the fact that the Department, while entitled to £1 per license, was only in receipt of 9s per license. The Commission of Transport forwarded a warrant appointing Mr W. B. Gaylor an inspector under the Transport Licensing Act, and outlining the inspector's duties. Grey Defence Rifle Club. The Grey Defence Rifle Club closed its season on Saturday, when the final ehoot for the Badger trophies was concluded. The top scorers were Riflemen H. Higgins 98, S. Sharman and T. Garth 93, equal. In the aggregates, Bifleman C. Bichardson tied with T. Garth vith 478, and in the shoot-off Richardson won by 95 to T. Garth's 93. The championship was also won by C. Richardson, with a total of 1164. The handicap championship was won by T. Garth with 1144. S. Sharman was runner-up with 1134. Coursing. The lkaniatua -and West Coast Coursing Club held their second meet ing of Hhe season at ' the Ikamatua Plumpton on Saturday afternoon. Fourteen dogs participated in the open stake, which was won by L. Morrisey's Black Silk, with Mr E. Warring's Cowl as runner-up. There was a good attendance. Mr J. Braithwaite. of Rnnanga, was the judge. Association Football. Cobden beat Bunanga, the game ending 3 to 2. It is understood that Bunanga will protest, as no time was taken during the hold-up by the onlookers, who took the field when demonstrating against the referee. The scorers were:—For Cobden, Ennor (2) and McLean (1); for Bunanga, Hutchison and Timlin scored 1 goal each. In the senior Westland Cup games, Blackball was defeated by Dobson 1 to 4, playing at Dobson. Short scored all four goals for Dobson, and McGhic scored for Blackball. Tarlorville defeated Greymouth 2 to I. The game was a good one, and the winners were hard pressed all the way. In the junior competition, Dobson juniors beat Greymouth 2 to 1: Marist third beat Technical 2 to 3. League Football. Tlic West Coast Rugby League fixtures were continued yesterday in brilliant weather. In the senior competition, playing at Tayiorville. Marist defeated Brunner by 17 to 0 after a hard game, in which Brunner wero unlucky not to score. The scores were made by O'Learv (3), Walshe (1), anl Scott (1). Calder kicked a penalty. Bunanga had a runaway victory from Waiuta, beating them by 46 to C. In the junior grade, Pirates beat Waiuta 35 to 13; Marist beat Bapahoe 18 to 11. In the third grade competition, Brunner beat Runanga 16 to 5, Waiuta beat Grey Valley 10 to 3, Pirates beat Marist 4- to 0. Rugby FootbalL Saturday's Rugby fixtures were played in brilliant weather before good attendances. At Rugby Park, Star boat Cobden 6 to nil. The scorers for Star were Reynolds and Petiie.
