UNEMPLOYED SOCIAL CLUB.

Mr Whykes presided over a general meeting of the Sumner-Bedcliffs Unemployed Social Club. He reported that a provisional committee had organised social evenings on behalf of the Christmas benefit fund. There was now a large, membership and the scheme. was being enthusiastically supported liy members, and generously encouraged by the citizens of Sumner and Itedcliffa, many of whom had promised gifts of prizes. He submitted tho propose! rules, which were fully discussed and adopted. Two new members were elected. The balance-sheet, showing a credit balance, was submitted by the secretary and adopted. The chairman reported that at the second card evening, prizes had been won by Mr Thomas and Mesdames Merritt and Brownie, and 1 consolation prizes by )lr McMillan and Mrs Johnson*
