WAIMATE. The president (Mr J. C. Hay) presided at tho monthly meeting of the committee of, the Waimate brunch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. . Canterbury Agricultural. College advised the holding of short courses in agriculture for farmers and stock agents, 11 days for each at the end of June and August respectively. It was decided to obtain more par- , ticulars. In answer to the president, Mr Sinclair, a member of the Adjustment Commission under the Mortgagors' Belief Act said that all mortgages came under the Act, and if a mortgagor appealed to the Commission he could not' be put off his farm or interfered with in any way. In other words, there was a moratorium until the ease was dealt with. Mr Hodgen mentioned a resolution passed in Timaru suggesting to the Government that rents should be reduced in accordance with, present-day prices. Mr Sinclair said it was not rent that was the trouble but goodwills, which were simply ridiculous, especially for pastoral leases. In the majority of cases the rents were most reasonable. It did not seem fair, in the circumstances, to saddle the Government with reduced rents. On the motion of Messrs Whatman and Barclay, a resolution was passed that a letter bo sent to the Prime Minister urging that no farmer should be put off his farm or-sold up owing to the operation of price factors over which he had no control. Mr Alan Grant placed before the meeting the results of the wheat variety trials carried out ou his property by the Agricultural Department. The following higher yields in comparison with solid ftraw Tuscan were revealed: —Major, 7 bushels; Bell's Hunter, 4.2; Dreadnought, 8.7; Velvet, 18-27, 10.2; Yeoman, 4.4. All varieties showed a significant increase in yield over solid straw Tuscan, the Department's letter pointed out. The weekly shoot of the Miniature Eifle Club was held in the Drill Hall. The following were the highest scores registered:—A. Bishop 78, A. Kernick 77, H. Cameron 77, A. Dunnill 76, W. D. Paterson 75, E. Cameron 74, G. Baker 74, K. Kernick 73, E. Warren 73, B. Averis 73, S. Dench 73, Finlayson 70. In the shoot-off for the Eeeve junior button, B. Averis was the winner. A. Bishop won the Paterson senior button with 78 off tho rifle. RANGITATA.
