. BANKS PENINSULA. Tlie annual meeting ofj the Banks Peninsula Electric Power Board was held at Little River yesterday. Present: Messrs J. It. Thacker* C. K Kay, A. M. Helps, J. V. Chapman, It. O. Bradley, and J. O. Coop. Mi* J. It. Thacker was reappointed chaiiinan lor the ensuing year, and Mr J. V. Chapman vice-chairman. Mr J. 0, Coop was welcomed to his seat on the Board. The ordinary meeting was held at the conclusion of the annual meeting. The chairman, reporting on. the finances for the year, stated that the income for electric supply was £12,215, icpresentmg a, decrease oi £i)o2 over the previous year. Of this amount a sum of £7BO was accounted tor by concessions in the Board's charges for current, of which consumers had had the bencht. Since 1923 the Board had required to strike an annual rate to cover the deficiency between revenue and expenditure. This rate from a peak of £4900 had been lowered slightly each year, the last levy having been for an amount of £3700. He was pleased to state that the rates over [ this period had been sufficient slightly I to exceed the deficit in each rear,'and the result was that a small surplus would enable the Board to make further concessions. In connexion nith the license for the use of water at Akaroa it was re- ; solved to make an effort to secure a lower annual rental than was proposed in the agreement under consideration. It was reported that a loan of | £20,000 fell due on November Ist next, and it was resolved to communicate with the local Government Loans board for the renewal of it. Accounts amounting to £714 were passed for payment., , The engineer reported that during the month the inspector had been employed on replacing and testing house servico meters. This work had now been completed throughout the Mt. Herbert and Wairewa Counties, and a start had been made in the Akaroa County. The lines gang bad been employed in reconstructing hues at Barry's 'Jay and replacing defective poles. Fifty-seven poles had been removed and forty-two erected. Steel poles at Motukarara had been painted. Lines had been altered at points of intersection with the new Post and Telegraph lines at Diamond Harbour and Purau. Interruptions frequently occurred in the supply to tn6 Kaitunn area, duo to the mechanical failure during heavy winds of the 33K.V. fuses in the Knituna sub-stntion. This type °ti f 'i lse ' w,,ipn " a ' s originally fitted in all the 33K.V. sub-stations, had proved
unsatisfactory, and was during reconstruction replaced with a more reliable type at all other sub-stations. The engineer was authorised to secure the necessary tuses for replacement of the detective ones at Kaituna.
