Gosling, • had ignored a recommendation by the 1 j police and had refused to prosecute a ' ' prominent northern Trades Hall official, "Bondy" Hoare. j According to the files tlio police had ; recommended that Hoare be prosecuted > for offensive words in relation to the | King in a speech at Islington on May j j 12th last year. Hoare said that, while i ; others stood up while the National An- : i them was being played, ho (Hoaro) sat i ■ down, and while other people said "God j : Save the King," ho said "God damn I the King!" ' Mr Chaffey .said that as the offence j ; occurred last year, and the papers were ■ : : withheld by the Minister for thirteen j months, it was not possible now for pro 1 - j ■ ceedings to be instituted. i
