REGENT THEATRE.

"MATA HARI." Greta Garbo, whose exotic charm and dramatic acting ability have stamped her as one of the leading lights of the talking screen, and Eamon Novarro, who has long established an unfailing popularity with film audiences the world over, are to be seen and heard together in "Mata Hari," one of the outstanding pictures of the year, which opened at the Regent Theatre on Saturday night. One can say with certainty that "Mata Hari," gives both these rstars the opportunity of their careers to portray characters of depth, and throughout tho piece they are superbly cast. The picture is produced on a lavish scale and tho hand of the expert producer is apparent. Tho story, based on the life and loves of the notorious Groat War spy who met her death before a French firing squad, offers plenty of scope for emotional acting of the finest quality and melodrama of the most absorbing Jcind Greta Garbo, as tho beautiful and mysterious woman spy, and Ramon Novarro, as the Russian aviator for whose love Mata Hsri ultimately pays the death penalty, combine splendidly in depicting the tensely dramatic tale in a human and moving manner. Lionel Barrymore and Lewis Stone, two of the best-known and most capable veterans of tho screen, head the distinguished supporting cast.- Otherß include 0. Henry Gordon, Karen Morley, Alec B. Francis, and Blanche Frederici. There is an excellent supporting programme.
