WORK OF THE MONTH. LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD MEETS. A meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board was held yesterday, when there were present: Messrs W. T. Lester (chairman), F. Horrell, J. Leslie, J. W. Bowdcn, 11. M. Chrystall, F. E. Sutton, E. T. McMillan, W. ,T. Walter, W. C. Gallagher, and F. L. Parnham. The Standing and Finance Committee recommended that the Board make the following grants from unauthorised expenditure : Salvation Army Samaritan Department, for Canterbury, per Adjutant Hannah L. Coombs, Samaritan and Probation Officer, £SO; Boy Scouts Association, Canterbury, por Mr W. 11. Montgomery (Metropolitan Commissioner), £2 2s; Sumner Lifeboat Institution, working expenses account, £lO. The committee had no recommendation to make concerning a request for assistance from the Workers' Educational Association. Tl.j report was adopted. Treasurer's Statement. _ The treasurer's statement showed that since the previous meeting the sum of £.7358 Ids Gd had Oeen paid into the harbour fund account, as compared with £8265 5s 2d for the corresponding period of 1931. Tho total ordinary receipts for the first eight months (October Ist to May 31st) of the Board's financial year were £50,537 10s, or £7007 per month, as compared with £G1,186 15s, or £8023 per month, .for the corresponding period of 1930-31. After the payment of £2301 12s 6d loan interest dus on June Ist, the bank book showed the harbour fund to be ui credit £B2SB 16s, and the unpaid accounts amounted to £879 18s 7d, which left the account in credit to the extent of £7408 17s sd. In.addition, a sum of £3700 was lying on fixed deposit at the bank to meet future interest payments on loans. Following Mere the cargo statistics tor the month of May, 1932, as compared with the corresponding period of last year:— May, l&o-i. Alay, 1931.

The harbourmaster's report stated that during tho month of May, 1932, 105 trading vessels aggregating 152,930 tons register entered tho Port of Lyttelton, as compared with 135 trading vessels aggregating 188,230 tons in Mav. 1931, detailed as follows:
