LAWN TENNIS.
CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. ' WILDING PARK TO BE CLOSED ON SUNDAYS. A decision to close Wilding Park for Sunday play for the winter months was made at a meeting of delegates to the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association last evening, when Mr PR. Harroan preside*; The holding of the 1932-38 New Zealand tennis championships at Wellington was also discussed. The Wilding Park Committee reeommended that the park should be closed for Sunday play forthwith, for the winter months. It also recommended that when tournaments were held at Wildr ing Park a charge of Is should be made lor parking cars in the area set aside for the purpdse. - l " The recommendations were adopted. The secretary (Mr R. Browning) reported that the 1932-33 New Zealand championships would be held in Wellington, provided the Wellington Association could make the necessary arrSlMr W. N Seay said he understood that Wellington would not accept this venue of the championships. Mr Browning: That is not so, but I presume that /should Wellington be unable to arrange for the championship,*, they would be offered •to Can'f he secretary reported that affiliated associations had given.in all £lOl-l»s I'd of which £4O came from Canterbury to the Hawke's Bay Lawn Tennis Association to help in making gooa earthquake damage. This carried with it a subsidy of £IOO. In response to a request from the executive of the All Nations Fair for a donation to the Mayor's Relief of Distress Fund, contributions totalling £, 28 10s had been received from a number of-affiliated clubs, and this amount had been remitted to the City Treasurer In addition to this sum, contributtons totalling £7 4s were sent by certain clubs direct to the treasurer of the fund. - Mr Browning said that he was disappointed with the entries for the winter inter-club competition, which was ' nt present in progress. The number i of teams taking part had now dropped to 10, as compared with 17 last- year.
