A .petition was being circulated praying that they be allowed to come back into the genoral rating area with a view to getting some improvements made along -this length of the Cust river under the No. 5 Scheme of unemployment relief. It was reported, that the principal land-owner concerned had not signed the petition, which bore 33 names. It was agreed to carry out the work subject to no compensation being claimed by the land-owners' concerned for possible damage clone during or subsequent'to the work, and subject also to the necessary financial arrangements being made. It was reported that at the recent Rangiora horse .fair eight horses were disposed of suid "realised £3O above the total book values. The engineer reported that a stream of water was running along the embankment near the boundary between Smith and II ay ward's properties, and in one place had eroded into the foot of tho bank. It would be necessary to put in a short row of piles to divert the stream out into the willows and get the-channel silted'up. The cost of the work would be about £9O; Arrangements were in hand to commence, tree-planting next -week, the Forestry Department having granted an application for the supply bf HOO.OOO trees. The report was adopted. Mr Manhire gave notice to move that tlie rates be reduced to correspond with the reduced interest rates on debentures, in accordance -with the National Expenditure Adjustment Act. The reduction would amount' to about 3.26 per cent.
