fc I WORK OF ADJUSTMENT COMMISSION. / "Both, mortgagors .and mortgagees are acting very reasonably and fairly in the settlement of their troubjps," said Mr ,L 11. Cuningham to The I'kess: yesterday. Mr Cuningham is chairman pf the Canterbury and Westland Adjustment Commission established under the Mortgagors' Belief Amendment Act, 1931. The Commission was announced in February last, and the other members are Mr Cblin Mo-, Tntosh (Eangiora) and Mr Robert Sinclair (Mai vein). Very few applications for the Commission 's judgment were made until after the' passing of this 1932 amendments to the Act. It has .so far dealt with 15 applications —11 in Christcliurch, and the others at Eangiora. Altogether 31 applications have received from different parts of Canterbury and South Canterbury. None have so far been filed in Westland. • Future Sittings, The Commission is sitting again in Chrlstchurch on Tuesday next and in Tiniaru on June 7th. It will then proceed to otheif towns in South Canter- ! Lury, where sufficient applications have been filed to warrant its sitting. Adjustment Commissions throughout New Zealand been given a further task under the National Expenditure Adjustment Act. By thi% Actj,in cases whero there ate complaints of hardship upon the reduction of rents and interest, and the parties do not agree to go before the Supremo or - Magistrate's Courts the Commissions are given powers of investigation.
