Edward Joseph R°bb, clerk, single, aged 3D years, was charged with tho theft, on February loth and other dates between then and May 9th, of sums of money totalling £lB3 Bs lid, from the New Zealand Government, he being a. servant of the Post and Telegraph Department. Chief-Detective J. Carroll said that tho accused had been in charge oi the stamp department. He had manipulated the stamps. Later he had been reported missing, but ho had mads full confusion. Tuesday nest, bail being- allowed in . sell £IOO and one surety of £-00. ON LICENSED PREMISES. Horace Dyer. George Collin Ferguson. David Creagh Jolly, Joseph McAuliffc, John Allen McKorehar, and Charles Spragg were each fined 20s and costs for being-on-the licensed premises of Warner's Hotel after hours. MAINTENANCE ORDER. Maintenance, reparation, and guardiansbip orders, in respect of his wife, were made against William Robertson. -Ie was ordered to pay 25s a week. CIVIL CASES. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.'M.) Ten painters' apprentices were charged with a breach of the orders .of their Apprenticeship Committee in which they we-c required to attend classes at the Technical College. The statement read as follows: — , "Being an apprentice in tho painting and decorating trade who had not completed three years at the trade on July 11th, 1930, you did fail to attend classes at the Christchurch Technical College in painting and decorating when ordered to do so by the Painters' and Decorators' Apprenticeship Committee, in accordance with Clause 9 of tho said order." The defendants, wore: Stanley Hayden I Moore, William Coatee, Gordon Bagot, George Ernest Townsend, Clarence Thdmpi=on, Harry Ravmond Tonkin, Albert Sydney Forsey, Basil Gregory Murphv, Ivan McNeil, and Thomas McGlinchey Hill. The lastnamed did not appear. A. representative of Mr R. t. Bailey (District Registrar) fold the Court that a resolution had boon framed by the Apprenticeship Committee ruling that all opprenlices in their first, second or third years should join classes on their formation. The cla»s last year had been fairlv well attended, but since the beginning of this year the membership had fallen to four. On March 18th the defendants had been communicated with and <nven seven days in which to register, but the roll still remained at four.
