WEST COAST NOTES
PERSONAL. (SPKCIAIi TO TBB PRESS.) GREYMOUTH, April 17. Mr P. J. McLean, chairman of the Greymouth Harbour Board, who has boen visiting Wellington, returned yesterday. Mrs J. Johnstone, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs Charles Rugg, returned yesterday to Christchurch. Mr J. A. Pierson arrived yesterday from Auckland on a visit to Greymouth. Mr and Mrs Irving Sladen (Christchurch) are visiting the West' Coast. Miss Mary Phelan, who left yesterday on a holiday trip to Britain and Europe, was entertained by a number of her friends at Cobden on Friday evening. Miss Phelan will attend the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin. Mr and Mrs J. Slee, who have been on a honeymoon trip over tho North and South Islands, have returned to Westport. BOXING. . « TO-NIGHT'S TOURNEY. In the Civic Theatre to-night, commencing at 8 o'clock, the Chrietchurch Sports Club will conduct an amateur boxing tournament in aid of the Mayor's Relief of Distress Fund. Amongst the many contests to be held_ that between Olive Dazler, Marlborough middleweight champion, and Dick Forward, the middle-weight champion of Canterbury and Hawke's Bay, should prove of considerable interest. Bfth men are now at their beßt, so that a fast and exciting contest is confidently anticipated. Amongst the other contestants are Percy Hawes, Canterbury amateur feather-weight champion, and George Wright, bantam-weight professional. Neville Moulin, Canterbury lightweight champion, and R. Lester, who practically swept the boards last season in this weight, and will be meeting Moulin for the first time this evening. W. J. Brittenden, a 'Varsity champion of great promise, will meet Jack Hobson, Canterbury's welter-weight representative laßt season. R. Gaudin, another 'Varsity champion, will try conclusions with A. Bourne, who last season proved his mettle in the light-heavy and heavy-weight classes. In addition to many other contests, J. C. Watson and H. Gunn, both ex-feather-weight New Zealand champions, will give an exhibition bout.
The object of the tournament will appeal to all, and as tha prices are on a reduced scale there should be a capacity house. The doors will open at 7 p.m.
