HOCKEY.

MEN V. WOMEN. The first hockey match of the season was played at Lancaster Park on Saturday, when Old-Timers played a drawn game with the Canterbury ladies' representative team as ft curtain-raiser to the Rugby football match, Chrißt church v. Old Boys. The men's team included well-known representative players as 11. S. J. Goodman, S. Holland, C. S. Bellamy, W. Duffield, F. Ciawford, H. Jacobs, and P. Berry. The women won the opening bully and soon bad the Old-Timers defending their goal. After a couple of ineffectual attempts, B. liillichamp opened the score. Women X, Old Timers and the woiben's goal was in%'aded, Holla id putting in a good shof which was well stopped. The women's forwards made a combined effort and J. Parsons h,creased their lead. Women 2,' Old-Timers 0. Butterfield and Drayton were prominent in a right wins attack for the' men, but the women's defence was solid. Persistent efforts on tho part of the Old-Timers met with a reward, as Rfter a couple of unsuccessful penalty coiners, Holland put in a t'ood one which the women's goalie no cl-snce. Fast play followed until the end of the spell, which ended witb the score: Women 2, Old-timers 1. The Old-Timers made a sudden effort on resuming and Butterfield made an opening' v hich Holland turned to account, equalising the scores. Women 2, Old-Timers 2. The vomen retaliated but could not pierce the defence of Crawford and Bellamy. Gracie r,nd Holland headed a strong effort for the rid-Timers, which was well shopped.
