The Lapp tents in Sweden will in future bo equipped with telephones, according to an official statement by Dr Pji'ilf Bergstroem, the Government inspector of the ambulating Lapp schools. Swedish Lapland, being approximately oil the same size as Great Britain, is a splendid grazing district "for the reindeer herds of the Lapps, but roads, railways, and steamers are, of course, scarce. There has consequently been a propaganda for furnishing the homes of the settlers of the large forests as well as the Lapp tents, called "Kaatas," with telephones, a plan which is now being carried out. A further convenience to the Lapps will be that they will be enabled to consult each other as to the quality ot the grazing fields and as to general conditions for rational reindeer breeding.
