SPORTS CARNIVAL.
LANCASTER PARK TO-MORROW. A sprint event between Don McLcnnan. one of New-Zealand's fastest runners, and A. E. Fraudsen, a noted cycle racer, •will be one of tho more unusual attractions at the big sp,orts carnival to be held at Lancaster Park to-morrow. At 2 o'clock a programme of events for primary~schoo! children will commence. These are always interesting. Amateur athletes will compete in running, cycling. walking, pole vault, a harriers' event, and a steeplechase, and big fields are promised: The Girls' Athletic Association will conduct a Beries of events between teams representative of vari- . ous Christchurch firms. Among the novelty items will be wood-chopping, wrestling, and a tug-of-war, "for which ten team* have ea-
tared. A. hundred competitors will appearin Highland dancing events. The Caledonian Pipe Band willmarrh from Cathedral square, f to Lancaster Park at 2.15 p.m. This carnival is being held to raise money for' ' the Mayor's .Relief, of. .Distress fund. The «a}!s on all benevolent funds are very heavy, and the promoters confidently appeal to citizens to' help by,.heing present at the carnival.» where they .will. secure-, . more than their money's worth of enjoyment.
