PERSONAL. (■rKCIAL TO TH« r»I8».) • GREYMOUTII, March 31. Mr ami Mrs R. Ashley left yesterday for Christehureh and Wellington. Mr G. E. Perkins, who has been attending sports meetings on the East Coast, returned yesterday. Miss C. Hefferuan leaves on Tuesday, en route for Dublin, to attend the Eucharistie Conference. Mrs J. Orr, who has been visiting friends on the. West Coast, left to-day on her return to Waikuku. The lit. Rev. Dr. Kennedy (Christchurch) arrived yesterday on n visit to his parents, Mr and Mrs Jas. Kennedy. Misses M. Phelan (Greyniouth) and X. Dunne (Recfton) leave next week for Dublin, where they will attend the Eucharistie Conference. Second-Lieutenant J. R. Kenton, of Uokitika, has been transferred from the Nelson-Marlborough-West Coast Regiment to the No. 4 Squadron of the New Zealand.Air* Force. Weddings. The wedding took place at St. Patrick's Church yesterday, the Rev. Father Healy officiating, of Hazel Melvin, eldest 'daughter of Mr and Mrs, Dando, of Preston road, and George Patrick, eldest son of Mr and Mrs G. Thomson, of Cobden. The bride wore an ankle-length froek of cream satin georgette with a lace coatee, her cm l bioidered.veil being held in place with a double circlet of orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of hot-house blooms and maidenhair fern. Her sister,' Miss Annie Dando, was bridesmaid, and wore an ankle-length frock of'pink georgette, a soft felt hat of the same shade, and shoes to match, and carried a bouquet of colours in tone. Mr. H. Debenham was best man. Later Mr and Mrs Thomson left on their honeymoon, the bride travelling in a frock of navy erepe de chine and & closefitting hat of navy and white. - The wedding was celebrated on Easter Monday evening at St. John's Church. Westpoj't, the Rev. J. Bloyce officiating, of Frances Mary, only daughter of Dr. and Mrs E. Dacre Dunn, and Wilfrid John, second son of Mr and Mrs W. T. Slee, both of Westport. The bride wore a becoming frock of ankle-length of white shadow lace, with hip frills of silk tulle. Her veil
foruiing N a train, was of embroidered ivory tulle, and was worn in. cape shape well off the face and caught with a narrow orange blossom hail with a cluster on each side. She wore bejewelled laco gauntlets, embossed leather shoes, and carried a bouquet of cream arbutilons, chrysanthemums,, and maidenhair fern. She attended by two bridesmaids, Misses Linda Herbert, of Nelson, and Miss Klva Slee, sister of ''the bridegroom. | Their dainty frocks were of shell-pink j georgette with circular pink frills from the back of a .V-nccked bodice.. The: fully-flared ankle length skirts had, godcts of lace and lace frill defining a low hip-line. They carried muffs of pink georgette and wore gauntlets to match their frocks. Mr F. Slee was j best man, and Mr H. K. Campbell groomsman. Later Mr and Mrs Slee j left by motor for the south, 1 the bride ! wearing a tailored costume of niggerbrown cloth with smart Robin Hood hat to match. ' I Refresher 'Classes. Under the supervision of Mr Webb and Miss Greenwood, a teachers' re-'j fresher course was held yesterday at the Grey Main School, when there was a large attendance of teachers from all the schools in Gieymouth. The course will be continued at. Blackball to-day and at Hokitika to-itiorrow. Ross Sports. A successful sports gathering was held in Ross on Tuesday, "when there were a large attendance and some splendid contests. The chief event was the under-hand 14in log chop, for which, out of 40 nominations, 31 competed iu the heats, the final being won by J. Gugieh, with T. Cron second and Jas. Bannister thiid. The upright chop was won (by I). Bannister, with T. Cron second'and A. Wilson third. Nineteen competed. In the maiden chop, 12in log, J. Green and J. Nissen tied for first, with W. Wright, third. Fifteen competed. Vr.ledictory. The parishioners of; the Methodist Church at Reefton tendered a farewell to the Rev. T. W. and Parsons on Tuesday evening. Mr and Mrs Parsons arc leaving for England on Saturday after being four years in Reef ton. Mr T. W. Watson presided, and there was a large attendance of the Reef ton public. During the evening the guests were the recipients of a number of farewell gifts. Mr T. Watson, jun., gave Mr Parsons a wallet of notes in recognition of his services to the church and Reefton generally. Mr W.
