EDUCATION BOARD
APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS. The Caflterbury Education Board met yesterday. There were present: Messrs G. W. Armitago (in tho chair), W. A. Banks, 11. J. Bignell, S. K. Evison, J. G. Gow, J. J. Hurley, W. Johnson, J. W. Preen, S. Smith, C. S. Thompson, R. Wild, and W. P. Spencer. The following appointments were confirmed:— Addington, Mr L. A. Gourlay,'assistant master; Albury, Miss M. L. Fordyce.. assistant mistress; Ashburton i/ast, Miss #N. Tayler, assistant mistress; Cheviot, Miss M. L. Irwin, assistant mistress; Darfield, Miss M. A. Laugessn, assistant mistress; Hook, Miss K. A. Pattlc, head teacher; Lakeside, Miss A. B. Alabaster, assistant mistress; Opawa, Mr D. S. Clay, assistant master; Opilii, Mr W. O. Ncas, solo teacher; Mr P. W. Garland, head master; Ruatapu, Miss I. Berg, assistant mistress; Seafield, Mrs E. Shirley, solo teacher; To Moana, Mrs D. Shewry, sole teacher; Timaru South, Miss A. D. Dunn, infant mistress; Timaru West, Mr H. S. Nolan; Bell Hill, Miss A. V. Glasson; Burwood, Miss M. B. Hounsqll; Bushside, Miss L. A. Hunt; Fairview, Miss A. Rogers; Greymouth, Miss B. McSherry; Kimberlcy, Mr L. A. Gourlay; _Kowai Bush, Miss F. A. Clark; Kumara, Mr A. H. Sesbeck; Parnassus,' Mr O. D. Sewell; Rangitata Island, Miss F M. Hunter; Seadown, Mr J. Southward; Sydenham, Mr I. M. Willoughby; Temuka, ■ Miss E. M. Scrimshaw; Timaru South, Miss V. Elder; Waltham, Miss M. A. Adams; Wataroa, Mr J. H. Clague. It was resolved to send letters of appreciation to Mr A. H. Secbeck (Kumara), and Miss M. A. Adams (Waltham), who are retiring after long and efficient service. A letter was received from the Department pointing out that the Board would be liable for cost of conveyance if such were demanded by the Minister. In reply to tlie Board's request that the whole cost of essential services should 'be met by the Department, modifications were advised as follows: —Eiffelton (Isleworth): Capitation and halfexcess to be paid, balance being found locally; Geraldine Plat: Pull cost at 18s a day allowed; Methven (Mt. Hutt): Capitation and half-excess to be paid; Lowcliffe (Coldstream): Pull cost bo made; St. Andrews (Lyalldale): 14s a day offered. A letter was received from the Department stating that the Minister could not agree to the closing of tho Barr Hill School, as no saying was apparent. It was resolved that no further action bo taken on the proposal to close the Barr Hill School.
