MAYOR'S DISTRESS FUND.
TO-MORROW NIGHT'S CONCERT. BY J. 0. WILLIAMSON'S GILBERT AND SULLIVAN CO. ; At the Civic Theatre to-morrow evening, commencing at 8 o'clock, the members of J. C. Williamson's Gilbert and Sullivan Comic Opera Company will present a magnificent concert, the proceeds from which will be given to the Mayor's Fund for the distressed people of Christchurch. The Gilbert and' Sullivan Company is nightly appearing at the theatre, and during last - week no fewer than three afternoon performances, were staged. Also, the company is at pres- | ent rehearsing a new opera to be staged shortly in Melbourne. It will be realised, therefore, that the. members are acting very, generously in sacrificing their only day of rest in order that they may do their bit towards helping those people of Christchurch who are in need of money and comforts. The public can display its appreciation of the travelling artists by attending the Civic Theatre in large numbers and by giving liberally to gain admission. A glance at the programme will show that the concert is likely to prove the finest that haß ever been presented on a Sunday night in Christchurch, and it is hoped that the proceeds will exceed those of any previous Sunday charity concert. Seats may be reserved at the. Bristol Piano Company up to 11.30 this morning, and afterwards the plans will be on view at the office of the Theatre Royal.
