CITY RATES.
OVER £16,000 COLLECTED YESTERDAY. With two full days and one half day to elapse before the imposition of tbo 10 per cent, penalty on rates linpaid be/ore 4 p.m. on March 22nd, the amount of City rates collected to date is now over 54 per cent, of the total amount levied. 1 The amount collected yesterday was about £16,600, wfcich Is twiefc as great as the highest amount collected in any one day this year. On the ing date last year the amount collected \*ras £15,090 8b 3d, but an exact com-, parison is not possible as this year the office was open for two hours in the evening, when about 200 people took advantage of this facility. Up to 4 p.m. yesterday the approximate amonnt collected was £13,800; the proportion of rates collected to rates levied being 53.47 per cent., as compared frith 54.55 per cent, on the corresponding date last year. » In the table which follows, showing the present position, the amount shown for the present year relating to the mm collected yesterday and to the total collected to date are approximate only, and the percentage of rates collected to rates levied consequently also is approximate, For comparison purposes figures relating to 1931 also are given: 1832. £ s. a.
