SECONDARY SCHOOLS.
ABOLITION OF BOARDS CRITICISED. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TKLTGBAM.) DUNEDIN, March 16. Pointed criticism of the proposals oi the Economy Commission, which, if adopted, will affect the secondary schools of the Dominion and Boards of Governors wa3 advanced by Mr J. C. Stephens when these proposals were submitted to the monthly meeting of the Otago High Schools Board of Governors to-day The following resolutions were unanimously carried: "That t.iiis Board is firmly convinced that the abolition of secondary school Boards and centralisation of control in Wellington' is contrary to the best interests of the secondary schools of the Dominion." "That the Minister for Education be asked for an assurance that before any legislation affecting the control of the .secondary schools of the Dominion is promoted the secondary schools Boards will have an opportunity of considering the proposed legislation in conference and placing their views before him."
NEW PLYMOUTH, March 16. The Taranaki Education Board to-day passed a resolution that while recognising that economies were needed, owing to the economic position, reductions, in the Board's opinion, should interfere as little as possible with efficiency As the Economic Commission had not taken evidence from the Boards who control the administration of education, the Board requested the executive of the Education Board's Association to call a conference to consider the position.
