their force of oyer 60,000 workers, were discussed at a special meeting of tho Canterbury Centre of the Society yesterday. The purpose of the Society would_ be to co-operate with existing organisations, explained Mr C. J. Konaldson, the .chairman of the Centre. It would De concerned, not with the relief of unemployment, but with the relief of the distress caused bv it. The sub-dentres would concentrate first on the collection of clothing for the needy, he said. Lnter there would be an extension of activities in other directions. The work done would be of a class that was usually taken up hv Red Cross Societies in other countries, aS rJ or exnm Ple, in America. During the war the sub-centres had done a grcnt work, and it was thought that they should work with equal eneray, and on an equally larpe xcal6, Jli Hie cause of national relief, when in the war years they had, done so for outside purposes.
